Introducing TechGig CodeHire – a New Innovation in Hiring Top IT Professionals

India’s most passionate tech community, TechGig launches a new tool for HR Managers to assess the skills and competence of IT Professionals for recruiting top IT talent, – TechGig CodeHire. The first CodeHire event was successfully conducted on a pan-India level for the reputed IT Firm of ZS Associates recently.

How does an HR recruiter assess the competency and skill of IT professionals? Till date the challenge for the HR manager has been, “How can I shortlist competent candidates for interviews with my IT Manager, when I don’t know programming?” The current methods employed have been the usual scouring of resumes and assuming that what candidates declare as their competence to be true. This is usually followed by some sort of preliminary interview.

When an HR Manager interviews an IT Engineer or programmer, there is an inherent risk that competence may be wrongly assessed as IT skills are very specific and an untrained eye may not grasp of the intricacies involved in such a specialised field.

TechGig’s CodeHire Programme is a highly effective system for HR Managers to judge competency levels and skills of IT professionals, based on performance in an objectively assessed problem solving competition.

TechGig CodeHire bridges the skill assessment gap between the growing demand for top talent and the Code-Ninjas who are eager to prove they’re the best in their desired skill. CodeHire empowers the recruiting company to challenge the substantial TechGig Developer Community and judge individual performance on the basis of their problem solving skill.

The CodeHire Event consists of a set of programming problems that developers have to solve using code. Based on the skills displayed in the architecture, efficiency, speed and simplicity of the code they write, prospective employees are shortlisted for interviews

“TechGig CodeHire provides developers a new and unique way to showcase their talent in their particular skill and help them ‘jump the queue’ bypassing the traditional resume-job-application procedure. By enabling companies to shortlist and select candidates based on their core skill competence instead of only their written resumes, TechGig CodeHire makes the hiring process quick, efficient and easy for both developers and corporates.” says Amit Gupta, Product Head, TechGig.com explaining the concept.

In the highly competitive job space, where money is at a discount and talent is at a premium, organizations are betting on a ‘differentiated hiring’ strategy to tap a highly skilled workforce. In the war for talent – job interviews and resume searches alone are not enough to identify or attract the best and brightest in the business.

Traditional recruitment methods need to be combined with pre-hiring assessments to help ascertain the true skill-level of the candidate. Many organizations are attempting to formulate techniques that go beyond the traditional interviewing methods to engage and hire top candidates and are disrupting the traditional set-up and exploring new and effective ways to recruit talent.

Services like TechGig CodeHire are helpful in bringing the employer closer to the prospective candidates, generating interest about the company’s vision and projects and even tapping into the passive candidate base for future recruitments.

TechGig has recently conducted CodeHire for one of their clients, ZS Associates, a leading IT firm and a global leader in sales and marketing effectiveness, based in Pune.

The online event lasted around 6 days where the initial 3 days were dedicated to marketing the event and the rest in running the CodeHire. The coding problem was of medium-level difficulty – inserting while sorting a pre-created cyclic linked list.

The event received an enthusiastic response from the developer community even though it was conducted over the weekend- it saw over 1100 participants. TechGig CodeHire stood-out as a differentiated hiring solution for ZS Associates to target top developers and they were successful in their objective short-listing 50 highly talented Java & C# developers based on their criteria of experience, location, and marks very quickly.
