Jobs are moving from the Big Metros to Smaller Cities: TimesJobs’ RecruiteX Reveals

Tier II & III cities in India are the Jobs hubs of the future and currently account for nearly 15 per cent of the jobs across key sectors, according to TimesJobs’ RecruiteX.

October 13, 2014: At a time, when PM Modi’s ‘Make in India’ initiative is emphasizing that the nation’s growth lies in semi-urban and rural segments, organisations are considering moving to these ‘job hubs of the future’. TimesJobs.com took a look at the scope and potential of some of the key locations, which are giving the big metro centres a run for their money.

According to the TimesJobs’ RecruiteX data, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Nashik, Lucknow and Ahmedabad are the major tier II & III cities that have featured in the list of the top ten hiring locations for the last one-year. These cities have witnessed a considerable 2-5 per cent increase in hiring in the past four months alone – more than in any of the metros.

“All factors seem to be working in favor of more jobs in smaller cities – crowded metros and high costs of infrastructure & living are driving companies to look at tier II & III for their availability of workforce at lower cost; Proactive governance, favorable policies, infrastructural development and investor friendly initiatives are further boosting prospects in these cities.” says Vivek Madhukar, COO, TimesJobs.com
