Hiring trends: Mar’21 recorded 4% M-o-M and 25% Y-o-Y gain in talent demand; Construction topped M-o-M index and IT/Telecom led Y-o-Y index

New Delhi, April 14, 2021: The IT/Telecom sector recorded the highest growth of 42% while the overall talent demand at India Inc. improved by 25% in Mar’20 v/s Mar’21 comparison, found TimesJobs RecruiteX. RecruiteX is a monthly recruitment index that records the demand and supply of talent at India Inc.

An in-depth study of the talent demand trends of the review period indicated that all the top 10 industries – except Retail and FMCG sector – improved their talent intake. The top five sectors to gain talent demand in Mar’20 v/s Mar’21 analysis were: IT/Telecom (42%), Petrochemicals (32%), Infrastructure (31%), Construction (31%) and BFSI (23%). Retail and FMCG saw steepest dip in talent demand with (-24%) and (-14%) drop respectively, owing to the widespread shutdowns.

In the Feb’21 v/s Mar’21 comparison of talent demand, the Construction, Petrochemicals, Infrastructure sectors noted a double-digit uptick. Tier II cities dominated RecruiteX’s location-wise list as Indore and Vadodara occupied the top two slots with double digit growth in talent demand. Mumbai, though coping with the rising COVID-19 cases, emerged as the top job hub beating all other metro cities in M-o-M talent demand analysis. It noted 6% M-o-M growth and was the only metropolitan in the list of top five locations.

Functional area-wise, HR/PM/Training, Doctors/Nurses and BFSI witnessed most growth in talent demand in Feb’21 v/s Mar’21 comparison. Work experience-wise, professionals with 10-20 years of experience were most in demand in Mar’21, followed by professionals with 5-10 years of experience.

Elaborating on the findings of RecruiteX Mar’21 edition, Sanjay Goyal, Business Head TimesJobs and TechGig said, “Construction, Petrochemicals and Infrastructure – are orkforce intensive sectors. Mar’21 typically saw all sectors reconvening their work in full swing and hence the stupendous jump in talent demand in the M-o-M analysis. The Budget announcements have also been a big impetus to these sectors”.
